07.09.- 10.000m and Duathlon Zofigen

After the European Championship (Half distance) in Wiesbaden I went into one week regeneration before the final 6-week period until the 3-Country Marathon in Bregenz (04th October) started.

Part of this preparation was, in addition to beautiful mountain workouts, a 10.000m track-run (27.08.) in Innsbruck, as well as the Duathlon over the short distance (10-50-5km) at the legendary Powerman Zofingen (06.09). Why legendary? The course has it all. Both, the bike and the run course have a great amount of altitude difference embroidered.

10.000m Run:
The goal for the 10k (25 laps, 400 meters each) run was for me personally, an official time under 40 minutes ‘. The training and triathlon performance as well as all theoretical analyzes spoke for it, that I can do it, but still not yet officially recorded. Despite adverse conditions for me (start time 20.20Uhr), it then ultimately worked out with 39.46,60 min! Unfortunately, I tackled the first 5k slightly too fast (crossing time 19.40min), hence I’ve suffered k6-8 a lot and lost approximately 1-2’’ per lap. I know, that my head “works”, so I could fight myself back the last 2 k (5 laps) and did run those again significantly under 4 minutes each. Anyway, personal best over 10k achieved!

Duathlon Zofingen (the only 2 in my “career”):
The Duathlon should suit me as competition format per se excellent because no “Achilles heel”, i.e. swimming. In hindsight, I did cope well over the 65km at the Short distance in Zofingen and I am satisfied with the 6th place overall (48; 3rd place in the age group category); do I place myself with and end time of 2.37,54h “neatly”  in the top 10 amongst the youngster 🙂

After the first run over 10km with approx. 220 high meters (according to organizers officially 9.2km) I was still in position 2 behind the later “start-finish winner” Kathrin Götz. I was well aware that the defense of this position on the bike will be very difficult. It did then so happen: the 50km with 600 HM meters felt very difficult and a hard bite to eat. Though, my evaluation brought me on an average output of around 170W, but the other girls were just better. Hence, I was passed with the only 11th best bike split at No. 6; during the final run over 5km (130 HM) and I could not do anything more.

Honestly: After the race I was mega-input disappointed. Why, I cannot say why right now. Probably because I have flirted with – a targeted end time of 2.33-2.35h – with a podium finish. Compared to previous years, the competition this year was very close together. When I consider what success I have retracted in the recent weeks, this performance is a confirmation of the very continuous form. In addition, in past days (since Innsbruck already) I am probably suffering an infection, because my body has shown after the race clear signals of exhaustion (which should not really be for that competition time).
