Yearend in Egenhofen & 2015er goals

Local running competitions around New Year’s Eve also make a lot of fun. You meet up with club mates and see a lot of friends and acquaintances. The events are small, but very fine and particularly likeable. Already 2013/2014 I started at the Silvesterlauf Egenhofen (10km) with a 3rd place in 39.53min. And this year?

Also the district Fürstenfeldbruck drowned in snow the days before New Year’s Eve. More or less 72h continuous snowfall (over 50cm in total) and slippery roads were the results, still in the morning of 31/12. Though the Egenhofener team stayed pretty calm and promised a completely snow and ice-free route. Chapeau! This was achieved by the truly outstanding volunteers. Only the passage “through the farm“, was extremely muddy, but not overly cumbersome. The total of 2 * 5km round course, slightly hilly and susceptible to wind, is demanding.

Already before the start I was called by the press and teammates as a favorite (my two fast club mates Kerstin Harting and Nadja Krumm did not participate). I really didn’t like that, because there is always somebody faster ….  When we got asked to take position, promptly at 1pm, fast runners in front, there were actually two ladies who rushed away as there would be no tomorrow. Excuse me, but my experience told me right away that it doesn’t take long until they are “collected”. This is what happened, the first after only 200meters, the second after km1.

But then, the suffering began unfortunately also soon for me. From km2 stitches (to the end), my biological cycle abandoned me shortly at km5. I felt actually great before the run , the targeted time was 3.59min per km, i.e. an end time just under  40 minutes , but I probably underestimated the temperature ( -1C ). The first 4km were with 3.59m/km h still in full command, then the aforementioned slump came with two very slow kilometers (4.10/4.13). My fighter heart never gives up, I picked myself up, but catching up the lost time was not feasible. In addition, I currently experiment with the competition nutrition (for these training runs are there for), and I think I know where it came from.

So it was for me and my Pacemaker Andreas a “safety run” and all that mattered was to secure the 1st place. With 40.11min (the course is only 9.9km long ), I was indeed slower than last year, but assured me with over 2min lead the victory. A great reward for a terrific season!

Very nice also double victory with my team mate Paul Günther,  who took in outstanding 33.31min the victory in the male competition , as well as 1st place in the team standings with Wieland Zentner our department head.

Well, and, after first suspicion, my goals for 2015 are now fixed:

1) Top 3 AG at „Triple-Crown-Series“ by Challenge Family, as well as,
2) Solo-Marathon around 3 hours

The year 2013 ended superb in Egenhofen, with a fanstastic 2014er season. Screams for repetition 🙂
