Tenerife – Camp No 1 2015
The first training camp 2015 is already over again. From 23.1 – 6.2 I had again two wonderful weeks in Tenerife, where I not only trained well, but finally had somehow some vacation. After my professional course is now being set (a process of change and the “arrival” can sometimes take a long time), I had only a few professional obligations to fil and used my free time for things I love to do: reading books, listening to music and much (regeneration) sleep.
The training went well. The basis was set at home, so that the sessions here had already a great amount of intensity in, as perhaps usual for this time of the year (but what is yet normal, the first race is on the doorstep). Compared to last year (4 weeks on Tenerife) I noticed a clear increase in all disciplines. In swimming approx. 8-10% which means a lot. I also found the mountains not as hilly as just 11 months ago, which was probably due to the subjective being and less on the objective fact (and the power meter did speak positively to me …) 🙂
In 13 training days (3-4/1 cycle of stress/easy days) I had 36 units with 50:47 hours of training (net) with 749.6 kilometer (469miles) / 12.927 meters altitude difference:
- Swim (11): 10.52h / 27.9km
- Bike (10): 29.02h / 624.7km / 11.797HM
- Run (11 thereof 6 linked runs): 8:19h / 97km / 1130HM
- Athletiktraining (4): 2:34h and
- 8 read books (thank good there is the Kindle).
The emphasis on “net” because the daily time of getting ready, walking to the T3 Training Center (about 1km uphill from the hotel), stretching, etc. quite quickly summarizes to another 1-1.5h per day.
Still, I cannot claim to know all the “popular” training areas in Europe. For example, I am missing Slovenia, Tuscany and the Canary Islands Lanzarote and Gran Canarias. Though, I can confirm, that I prefer to travel to La Caleta on Tenerife. The mix with the T3 Training Center, the local separation to the partner hotel, the hilly and mountainous countryside for running and cycling, ideal for power units and watt intervals, and the general calm that I yet so love … Of course you can choose Tenerife for an endurance training camp as well, however, absolute discipline, i.e. training according to heart rate, is demanded when cycling in the mountains!
Now, shortly back to a very winterly home before I enter the plane again on February 23rd for the first race of the Triple Crown Series in Dubai.
