2nd Place Non-Stop Triathlon Bamberg

Only 9 weeks from now, the Ironman 70.3 World Championships are taking place in Mont Tremblant and the final stage of preparation has begun.

After the 70.3 in Rapperswill I enjoyed a two -week season break, followed by a 12-day training-camp in the Provence. Just returned from there, a series of small preparatory competitions begun with today’s race, not to only test the form, but also to obtain some hardness through sub-disciplines :

Today’s test at the 25. Nonstop Triathlon at Bamberg (BY) was more than successful! With an total time of 2.24,09h over 1.5km swim, 42km bike and 10km run, I placed 2nd overall (1st AK35)

The race began already terrific with the first discipline. So far, the swimming was known as my “Achilles heel” but I was able to do a giant leap here, compared to last year. After only 25.41min (officially 26.53m including T1) I got out from the “Main-Donau-Canal” as 7th. To last year, this is an improvement of just over 5 minutes over that distance!

The bike course, slightly hilly with a total of around 200 altitude difference, led through the Franconia countryside (“Franken”). Technically not particularly demanding however challenged for us due to strong wind and partial fierce gusts from all sides. With quite a lot of “bite” I pedaled 185Watt on average and thus ended already 3rd after 1.14h!

With about 2 minutes behind the 2nd (I got informed when entering transition) I went full of energy on the 2 * 5km long running track. The aim was to perform a solid and uniform final discipline and, if possible, intending to gain the 2 minutes to # 2. Here I definitely relied on my skills! At the first turn, the residue was shrunk to around 1.5minutes; one kilometer later “rival” was in sight and unfortunately “godsend”. At km 7 I passed by and was able to extend the lead in the end to 1 minute. Therefore, I came to term with excellent 41.49min (officially 42.49m incl. T2; approx. 9.5km) and overjoyed as 2nd women! In addition, I am, as planned, ran every kilometer very balanced; no outliers up or down. This stability is much worth in Triathlon!

Even though the race was with “only” 37 quantitatively weaker occupied, as I am used to it, but experience shows that it makes little difference, whether 500, 150 or just 37 competitors are at the start. At the top the “air was and is always thin” and there is a strong density of power. I am more than satisfied with this performance!
